"SATE LILIT" Program Champions Integrated Nutrition Education at Schools

The "SATE LILIT" Program (Selamatkan Asupan Terbaik Lewat Inovasi, Literasi, dan Edukasi Gizi Terpadu — Save the Best Intake Through Innovation, Literacy, and Integrated Nutrition Education), initiated by the Center for Public Health Innovation (PUI-CPHI) Udayana University together with the Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Bali Food Bank Foundation, is supported by the Matching Fund Program of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology. The program is chaired by a lecturer from the Master’s in Public Health (MIKM FK UNUD), Dinar Saurmauli Lubis, SKM, MPH, Ph.D. The SATE LILIT Program aims to strengthen the governance of the healthy school meals program implemented by SOS Bali by developing nutrition education modules and media, as well as expanding collaborative spaces by directly involving teachers in schools.

Collaboration with Teachers in Karangasem

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, PUI-CPHI UNUD held a training event involving teachers from three elementary schools in Karangasem Regency: SD Negeri 2 Besakih, SD Negeri 1 Manggis, and SD Negeri 3 Labasar.

This training was not only a space for knowledge sharing but also a means to strengthen the role of teachers as nutrition literacy agents for students. Through this activity, teachers were guided to understand the application of the modules and utilize the innovative learning media that had been developed, enabling them to formulate appropriate learning strategies while emphasizing the local context of each school.

Student Participation

Interestingly, this activity also involved undergraduate (S1) and graduate (S2) students of Public Health from Udayana University. The presence of the students opened up space for inter-generational interaction, allowing students to learn directly about the practical implementation of public health programs, while also providing new energy to the training sessions.

For the students, this experience was a crucial opportunity to hone skills in communication, cross-sectoral collaboration, the application of nutrition theory, and the implementation of health promotion theory in a real-world school setting.

From Theory to Real Action

The SATE LILIT Program affirms the importance of an integrated approach: media innovation, nutrition literacy, continuous education, and multi-stakeholder involvement. The activity in Karangasem is a concrete example of how the university does not stop at research and learning modules but actively engages in the field to ensure that the information delivered genuinely benefits the community.

Through this collaboration, teachers are supported to enrich their nutrition teaching methods, students gain valuable field experience, while the school community acquires relevant knowledge to encourage healthy and sustainable eating habits.

Towards a Healthy and Smart Generation through SATE LILIT

The "SATE LILIT" Program is not just a campaign but a movement that combines science, action, and collaboration. With the active involvement of teachers, students, academics, and community organizations, this effort is expected to foster a new awareness about the importance of balanced nutrition from an early age.

This initiative reinforces Udayana University’s commitment to integrating education, research, and community service. Furthermore, the program asserts that improving nutritional quality is not just an individual task but a shared responsibility for the creation of a healthier, smarter, and more empowered generation.
