Unud's XV Cohort MIKM Students Lead Community Service at Perancak Beach
Kuta Utara, Badung - On Monday, June 17, 2024, the XV cohort of students from the Master of Public Health Science (MIKM) program at Udayana University (Unud) organized a significant community service event at Wantilan Pura Dalem Perancak, located on Perancak Beach in Tibubeneng Village. This event, themed "Harmonizing Tri Hita Karana for Healthier Tourism at Berawa Beach," was spearheaded by committee chair drg. Anak Agung Gde Putra Mahendra.
Tri Hita Karana is a philosophical concept in Balinese culture emphasizing the harmonious relationship between three elements: Parahyangan (spiritual connection with God), Pawongan (social connection with fellow humans), and Palemahan (connection with the environment). The aim is to ensure the sustainability of Bali's primary industry, tourism, by maintaining balance among these three aspects.
As part of the public health-themed program, the event featured three main activities to embody this concept: Environmental stewardship through a beach clean-up and education on rabies prevention; Social harmony through educational sessions on diarrhea prevention, promoting clean and healthy living habits, and providing blood pressure and eye examinations; and Spiritual gratitude, reflecting the community's appreciation for divine blessings and their duty to protect these gifts.
The event drew participation from the Tibubeneng Village government, UPTD Puskesmas I Kuta Utara, beach managers, vendors, lifeguards, and tourists. Faculty members, staff, and students from the MIKM program also attended. The high community enthusiasm was evident, with attendees engaging actively until the event concluded at 1:00 PM.
In his remarks, Tibubeneng Village Secretary I Wayan Adiputra,
SE, outlined the village's ongoing health initiatives and expressed hope
for continued collaboration with Unud. The MIKM Program Coordinator
welcomed this openness and expressed gratitude for the community's
support.
The success of this event was attributed to the
diligent efforts of the students, under the guidance of Dr. dr. Agus
Hendrayana, who teaches the Health Tourism course. Additionally, support
from Ramata Hospital, which provided healthcare professionals and free
eyeglasses, was met with great enthusiasm by the attendees. The active
participation and cooperation of Tibubeneng Village officials and
residents were crucial in making the event a resounding success. This
event is evidence of the consistent support from the Public Health
Master Program in implementing excellence in terms of health tourism and
cultural values in the learning process.
