Udayana University Public Health Master's Student Shares Thesis Findings on HIV Stigma in Indonesia
Denpasar, Bali – May 2024: Ni Kadek Sudastri, a Master's student in Public Health at Udayana University, recently presented her thesis findings on the stigma faced by people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Indonesia. The presentation was part of an event hosted by the HIV Research Network (JPHIV) to share recent studies on HIV.
Ni Kadek's thesis, a scoping review on HIV-related stigma in Indonesia, was supervised by Prof. Dr. Pande Putu Januraga, M.Kes, Dr. PH, and Dr. Putu Wulandari, MPH., PhD, both affiliated with the Public Health Master's program at Udayana University. Ni Kadek, who specializes in Health Management and Services, is also a participant in the Excellence Scholarship Program for Undergraduate-to-Doctoral Students (PMDSU). Remarkably, she completed her thesis in under a year.
The audience for her presentation included professionals involved in HIV prevention and care, as well as groups affected by HIV. Ni Kadek's findings were met with enthusiasm and sparked numerous questions and feedback, providing her with valuable experience in public speaking and further improving her thesis. Her research contributes significantly to developing strategies to manage HIV stigma, marking an outstanding academic achievement.
This effort by the student and her supervisors aligns with the Public Health Master's program's focus on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS. Ni Kadek's study helps bridge the understanding gap regarding HIV stigma in Indonesia, contributing academically to policy development and program management for HIV in the country.
