Udayana Master Program of Public Health Alumnus Pioneers the “TOBAT” Innovation

Ns. I Nyoman Dharma Wisnawa, S.Kep., M.Kes, affectionately known as Pak Wis, is an alumnus of the Master program of Public Health of Udayana University, and currently serves as the Mental Health Program Implementer at UPTD Puskesmas III Denpasar Utara. Throughout his tenure, Pak Wis has pioneered a unique and groundbreaking innovation in Denpasar called “TOBAT.” This initiative offers a comprehensive mental health service at the Puskesmas, which is safe, beneficial, high-quality, and accessible to all community members. The core focus of “TOBAT” includes mental health screening, counseling, treatment, and educating the public on the importance of accepting individuals with mental disorders (ODGJ) within families and communities to prevent relapse and minimize the risk of suicide among ODGJ.


The “TOBAT” innovation has brought numerous accolades to Pak Wis as a healthcare professional. In 2022, he secured second place nationally for mental health advocates in honor of World Mental Health Day. He also achieved third place in the Simak Sejiwa Innovation (Information System for Families with Mental Health Issues) in Denpasar and was awarded Nurse of The Year in Denpasar in 2023. Currently, Pak Wis is participating in the selection for the National Exemplary Health Worker in the Innovation Category.


In addition to his professional achievements, Pak Wis within the Puskesmas III Denpasar Utara maintains strong communication with University of Udayana. Collaborative activities include the COVID-19 sero-surveillance research (2022-2023), COVID-19 vaccine research (2021-2022), Typhoid vaccine research (2020-2021), and community service at SMP12 (2023).


Pak Wis acknowledges the significant role of his educational institution in his accomplishments. The success of alumni reflects the quality education provided by the institution. Pak Wis feels that his alma mater consistently and genuinely appreciates his achievements. This recognition not only validates his dedication and hard work but also serves as tangible proof of the long-term investment made by the university in shaping the character and skills of its students.
