Udayana FETP Lecturers Take Active Roles in the Association of Field Epidemiology of Indonesia
Denpasar, Indonesia – Lecturers from the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) at Udayana University are playing pivotal roles in the Association of Field Epidemiology of Indonesia (PAELI) for the 2023-2027 period. This significant involvement highlights the expertise and dedication of Udayana’s academic staff in advancing field epidemiology in Indonesia.
Among the appointed leaders, I Wayan Gede Artawan, an alumnus of the FETP at Universitas Indonesia, serves in the Human Resources Development division. Anak Agung Sagung Sawitri, responsible for Organizational and Institutional Affairs, and Putu Cintya, handling Partnerships and Collaboration, are both alumni of the FETP at Universitas Gajah Mada. Additionally, Putu Dwi Adi, a mentor from Udayana's FETP and its alumnus, has been entrusted with the role of PAELI’s treasurer.
PAELI, the Association of Field Epidemiology of Indonesia, comprises various professionals from the education and health sectors in Indonesia, all working towards the common goal of advancing field epidemiology in the country. The organization is currently led by Frans Yoseph Sitepu and supported by a dedicated team of field epidemiologists.
On June 15, 2024, PAELI held its meeting with all main staff, where several crucial agendas were discussed. These included the legal formalization of the organization, regular training initiatives, and encouraging PAELI members to participate in training provided by the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN). Such participation aims to enhance Indonesia's ranking in global emergency response efforts. Other topics included membership for frontline and intermediate FETP members.
The active involvement of Udayana FETP lecturers and mentors in PAELI activities brings substantial benefits to the institution. It enhanced professional development, strengthened institution reputation, increased influence on policy and practice, as a resource and knowledge sharing, enhanced career and training program opportunities, as well as enhanced opportunities to support in crisis situation. Overall, the involvement of FETP Udayana lecturers in PAELI not only enhances their professional growth but also contributes significantly to the advancement of public health and epidemiology in Indonesia.
