Student Creativity Meets Public Health Advocacy: Udayana FETP Wins Third Place in National Video Competition
The Master of Public Health (MPH) Program at Udayana University, with a concentration in Field Epidemiology, actively participated in the national video competition organized by the National Field Epidemiology Association (PAELI) in collaboration with the Health Security Partner. The competition, which also featured categories for photography and FETP profile videos, was held from 5–26 May 2025 under the theme “Climate Change and Global Health Crisis: Confronting Environmental-related Diseases.” The announcement and promotion of the competition were widely disseminated via social media and alumni networks, as well as through WhatsApp groups of FETP mentors, coordinators across Indonesia, and networks within the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
Responding to this opportunity, the 2024 cohort of the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University—under the leadership of Dr. Erik Hendrawan and in coordination with the Head of the MPH Program and the Field Epidemiology Concentration Coordinator—took the initiative to produce and submit a profile video for the competition. The aim was to raise public awareness of Udayana’s FETP, promote the program’s strengths, and inspire prospective students to join the MPH Program.
The video highlighted the vision, mission, and curriculum of the program; its implementation of the Tri Dharma (education, research, and community service); and its collaborations with diverse institutions. It also conveyed Udayana FETP’s aspirations to contribute more actively at national and global levels, along with an open invitation for aspiring public health professionals to join and grow together with the program.
On 28 July 2025, during PAELI’s monthly NGOBRAS event—a regular forum for disseminating new public health insights from experts and practitioners—the winners were announced. Udayana University’s FETP proudly earned third place in the FETP Profile Video category. The full video can be viewed here.
For students, the competition served as an experiential learning platform, integrating academic knowledge with creative communication skills—essential for public health advocacy and stakeholder engagement. It also fostered teamwork, project management, and the ability to translate technical content into messages accessible to broader audiences. While for lecturers and mentors, this initiative strengthened mentorship roles, encouraged collaborative innovation, and provided an avenue to showcase the program’s quality to external stakeholders. In addition, for the MPH Program and the Faculty of Medicine, this achievement supports key accreditation values, including: evidence of effective student-centered learning, where students are actively engaged in real-world tasks that extend beyond the classroom; enhancement of program visibility and stakeholder engagement, aligning with indicators for reputation and community relevance; integration of academic and professional competencies, demonstrating the application of curriculum content in nationally recognized outputs. Finally, contribution to continuous quality improvement, as the feedback from such competitions informs program development and promotional strategies.
Through this recognition, the MPH Program at Udayana University reaffirms its commitment to excellence, innovation, and national impact in the field of public health.
