Strengthening National Confidence in Vaccine Research: Interprofessional Clinical Trial Collaboration Led by Udayana University
On 15-17 October 2025, the Master of Public Health (MIKM) Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, took another major step in advancing Indonesia’s vaccine research agenda through the official introduction of an upcoming clinical trial (Hepatitis B 0322) sponsored by Bio Farma—the nation’s leading vaccine manufacturer.
The study will be led by Dr. Trisna Windiani, Sp.A, as the Principal Investigator, representing the collaboration between the Department of Child Health and the Public Health Program, with strong scientific support from the Department of Internal Medicine. This partnership highlights the university’s growing excellence in interprofessional research, combining clinical expertise with public health perspectives to ensure broad community impact.

The informational session took place at Puskesmas Denpasar Selatan I, the primary clinical trial site. As a key community health provider, this puskesmas plays an essential role not only in participant recruitment, coordination, and follow-up but also as a promoter in communicating the importance of evidence-based vaccine research to the general public. This reflects a multidirectional collaboration: academics, clinical specialists, and practitioners working hand-in-hand to accelerate public trust and readiness for vaccination initiatives.
In addition, the MIKM Program emphasizes the development of future research workforce capacity. The study team involves not only specialists and senior researchers but also includes two MIKM alumni and one current student, demonstrating the program’s strong mentorship culture and its commitment to competency-based learning. Their involvement embodies the program’s mission to prepare graduates who can contribute meaningful, ethical, and high-quality work within Indonesia’s evolving biomedical sector.
To ensure smooth implementation, the Faculty of Medicine and MIKM Program have provided secure facilities for data and document management, meeting rooms, and monitoring space for sponsor representatives—showcasing UNUD’s institutional readiness and compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.
