Preparations for Implementing the Revised Curriculum Mandated by the Ministry of National Higher Education

The Indonesia Ministry of National Higher Education recently issued Decree [Permendikbudristek no. 53] in year 2023, comprising 107 articles and many clauses. This decree introduces several amendments that necessitate adjustments within the study program, particularly in term of learning process and curriculum. Notably, it introduces greater flexibility in defining one credit, aligning it with approximately 45 hours per semester. This flexibility allows for a variety of learning methods to be chosen and implemented, including discussions, fieldwork, and more. Additionally, the decree specifies that the minimum number of credits required per semester for the Master's Program is now set at 54 credits, marking a departure from previous regulations.

In anticipation of these changes, a stakeholder meeting within the Master's Program in Public Health (MIKM) was convened on February 2nd, 2024. The meeting included representatives from the Quality Assurance Division of the Faculty of Medicine, who provided insights into the decree and outlined the subsequent steps to be undertaken within the Medical Faculty Udayana as the overseeing institution of MIKM. Emphasis was placed on the necessity of revisiting the profile of graduate students expected by stakeholders, with a proposed reliance on updated tracer studies, before progressing to other curriculum-related activities. Given the anticipated time required for this process, the Medical Faculty Udayana recommended commencing it this year to ensure readiness by the early stages of the 2025 academic semester.

MIKM has established a timeline for curriculum development, with the initial step being the update of tracer studies. Lecturers have suggested advancing the tracer study process by conducting focus group discussions involving stakeholders and extending its scope to include private hospitals, beyond the confines of governmental sectors.

This initiative underscores MIKM's commitment to enhancing the quality of its graduates, aligning with stakeholder expectations and broader institutional objectives set forth by both the university and the Ministry of Higher Education.
