Focused Group Discussion with Public Health Stakeholders on Curriculum Development and Graduate Tracer Survey Findings

Following the analysis of quantitative tracer surveys among alumni and employers, the Master of Public Health Program (MPH), Udayana University (UNUD) conducted a focused group discussion (FGD) with stakeholders on 5 September 2025, to gather qualitative insights for curriculum development. This FGD specifically targeted users of graduates from the Health Service Management (MPK) and Maternal and Child Health–Reproductive Health (KIA-KESPRO) specializations.

Prior to the FGD, a structured discussion guide was developed, aligning questions with the particular focus of each specialization. The guide addressed topics such as the competencies needed by MPH graduates in institutions, curriculum relevance, teaching methods, internship experiences, partnerships, as well as expectations and recommendations from stakeholders.

The session began with an introduction by the MPH Program Coordinator, explaining the purpose, objectives, and format of the FGD. Participants were then divided into two groups according to specialization. Each group included representatives from a variety of institutions, including government and private health offices, NGOs, and educational institutions, ensuring a diversity of perspectives. The MPK group was facilitated by Dr. Made Sri Nopiyani and dr. Dwi Ariawan, while the KIA-KESPRO group was led by Pande Putu Rissa Cempaka and dr. Sawitri, an MPH alumna. Other lecturers such as Dr. Seri Ani, dr. Putu Cintya and Dr. Sutiari also supported to record, added questions, and clarified whenever necessary. While Citra as academic officer documented the process properly.

The discussion was highly interactive. While stakeholders expressed strong appreciation for the quality, performance, and competencies of UNUD MPH graduates, they also highlighted areas for further development to better meet market needs and the increasing competitiveness in the public health sector. Key areas for improvement included leadership, managerial skills, analytical capacity, and data interpretation.

The FGD findings will be further analyzed and integrated with quantitative survey results to inform curriculum revisions. This activity not only strengthens the MPH program’s responsiveness to stakeholder needs but also supports its mission to produce competent public health professionals. By systematically engaging alumni users, the program ensures alignment with national competency standards, enhances accreditation compliance, and reinforces the value of its graduates in the workforce.
