FETP Field Mentor Workshop

The Indonesia Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP), supported by the Health Security Partner (HSP) CDC, held a workshop for field mentors in Batam from July 24-26, 2024. The event aimed to enhance mentors' ability to guide FETP students and motivate them to publish results from field activities or available field data at their workplaces.

HSP CDC speakers provided practical guidance on writing articles, starting with creating an outline and refining it into a high-level outline. Mentors were divided into small groups to discuss and draft an outline based on the provided theory. Lecturers from FETP at seven universities, including Udayana University, facilitated small group discussions for certain group. Each group presented their progress for feedback and improvement.

The FETP field mentors who are representing FETP Udayana, mainly are FETP alumni: I Wayan Sugihana, I Made Arta, Eka Purnama, Ida Ayu Megawati, Dewa Harimbawa and Komang Suardani. These mentors are coming from several institutions: Bali Province Health Office, Badung, Gianyar and Buleleng Distict Health Offices, and also Health Quarantine Offices in Denpasar. These mentors are actively guiding current students and preparing to mentor the next cohort.

Beyond the stated goals, the workshop was valuable for expanding and strengthening the network of field epidemiologists across Indonesia, fostering collaboration between academics and practitioners. It also opened new opportunities for future partnerships in addressing public health challenges in Indonesia.

For Udayana University, active participation in this event is an effort to enhance the quality of FETP students' field education. It aligns with their commitment to supporting the Indonesian Ministry of Health in improving the quality of the health workforce to manage public health issues in Indonesia.
