Empowering Students through Partnership: Udayana MPH and PAELI Mini-Grant

As previously reported, students of the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program at Udayana University successfully won the national video MPH Program profile competition organized by the Indonesian Field Epidemiology Association (PAELI). The award, supported by the Health Security Partner, was given in the form of a mini-grant project to be jointly managed by students and faculty members.

The MPH Program, together with its students, has planned to utilize the grant for organizing the poster competition in conjunction with the upcoming National Seminar on Public Health. The seminar, scheduled for October 2025, carries the theme: Preparedness for Emerging Infections in the Era of Global Mobility: Synergy of Health, Tourism, and Epidemiology. Flyers for both the seminar and poster competition have already been disseminated through social media channels and the program’s professional networks, with the expectation of attracting participants from various regions of Indonesia.

The progress of this initiative was formally reported to PAELI during an online meeting held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 17.00 WIB, as part of the accountability process in managing the mini-grant for the poster competition.

Educational Value for Students. For students, this process represents more than just project management. It is an opportunity to learn teamwork, leadership, accountability, and professionalism while applying their academic knowledge to a nationally visible activity. By directly managing resources, coordinating with faculty, and engaging external networks, students strengthen practical skills in event planning, health communication, and stakeholder collaboration—competencies that are critical for future public health professionals.

Institutional Significance. For the MPH Program and Udayana University, this initiative aligns with the institution’s vision and mission of fostering globally competitive graduates rooted in local wisdom. It also reflects key values, including: Evidence of student-centered learning through direct involvement in program-level initiatives; enhancement of external collaboration and visibility at the national level; integration of academic knowledge, research, and community engagement through the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi.

By combining academic rigor, student empowerment, and institutional accountability, this mini-grant project strengthens both the learning experience of students and the reputation of Udayana University in advancing field epidemiology and public health leadership.
