Coordination meeting of among all Advanced FETP Programs in Indonesia to enhances the Field Epidemiology Curriculum Development

Faculty members from the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) at the Master's Program in Public Health (MIKM) of Udayana University's Faculty of Medicine was invited on 28 Februari – 1 Maret 2024 by the FETP Indonesia Ministry of Health to attend the coordination meeting of FETP Advances in Indonesia. Due to the cross-cutting event within the Galungan’s day, the FETP Udayana representatives attended the meeting by online.


The three-day event in Jakarta, marked the implementation of educational cooperation between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia through FETP Indonesia and the Surveillance Work-force, six universities hosting Advanced FETP education (including Udayana University), WHO Indonesia, CDC Indonesia, and the Health Security Partner.


The meeting was started by the presentation of the head of surveillance work-force of MOH with regards to the current situation of infectious diseases in Indonesia and what is expected from the existence of education of FETP advance in the six universities. This is followed by presentation of representative of each university with regards to curriculum, learning process, and outputs of each FETP in the last of three to five years, and the challenges of developing and maintaining the FETP in each university.


The demand for qualified epidemiologists is an important point for potential future pandemics. Therefore, the process of education for FETP always emphasize on field-case-based learning with coordination by the Province and District Health office as responsible body for the health of community. As well, the discussion of minimum standard competency which should be followed by all FETP in six Universities. The discussion followed the presentation was widening and productive, including to discuss the next National Conference on Epidemiology which will be held in September 2024.  


This activity exemplifies the contribution of Udayana University's FETP to the field epidemiology education in Indonesia and the practical implication of collaboration among universities and stake holders. It aligns with the vision and mission of the IKM Master's Program to continually develop cooperation and engage beyond the campus boundaries.
