Continuous quality improvement (CQI) Evaluation at FETP Udayana

Under the International Health Regulations (IHR), countries need strengthening core capacities for disease surveillance and response systems, include strengthening health workers, surveillance and response to extraordinary events. Therefore, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with the Five Universities (Udayana University, University of Indonesia, Gadjah University Mada, Airlangga University, and Hasanuddin University) have implementing the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP), which is two-year master program with graduates earning a master's equivalent degree epidemiology.


To improve the quality of the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) in Indonesia, the Ministry of Health conducted a Continuous Quality Improvement for FETP in 5 universities and their field practice places. CQI is systematic review of the inputs, processes, outputs and outcomes of the training program will be serves as a framework for evaluating FETP performance. CQI aimed to provide independent assessment and provide recommendations for improvements to the program, in order to produce better epidemiology staff in the future. The evaluation was performed independently by the WHO SEARO, FAO Indonesia, FETP Malaysia, FETP Thailand, and FETP Philippines, and took place on 10-15 July 2023.

The FETP Udayana was visited on 12-13 June 2024 by evaluator from FETP Malaysia and the FAO Indonesia. Assessment was using performance indicator standard questionnaire. Dean and FETP Udayana team provide data and information needed by the evaluator team, as well as having thorough discussion about the field learning process and their challenges. The evaluation team also visited one field visit at Bali Province Health Office, where the field mentors and FETP students have gathered to participate in the evaluation process. Result of evaluation has been presented in the hybrid meeting among relevant stake holders at 18 July 2023. This evaluation will benefit to improve the FETP Udayana University to attain the vision and mission of Master Program of Public Health, as well as the Faculty of Medicine and Udayana University.
