Consultative Meeting on Climate Change and Health with Stakeholders in Karangasem District

Following the qualitative and quantitative data collection and preliminary data analysis in previous months, the Koneksi Research team Bali, composed of faculty members from the Master's and Bachelor's Programs in Public Health at Udayana University, organized focused group discussion (FGD) at Karangasem District. The workshop which was conducted at the mid of May 2024, brought together three participant groups: stakeholders, implementers, and community representatives. The invited key persons were diverse, ensuring to cover all stakeholders who were involved in the data collection periods, as well as other stakeholders who were referred from the keypersons at the data collection periods.


At the beginning of the event, the head of the Unud research team provided the research progress activities including the data collections and data analysis and how the consultative meeting will be running. Next, the research team presented the result of quantitative and qualitative analysis to the audience. The questions and answers were provided to clarify, to add, and to correct the miscommunication whenever existed during the data collection. From this activity, part of the aim of the study which were to find out the vulnerability and risks have been shaped in to more definitive result.


The workshop also aimed to obtain the input strategy to overcome the challenge, as well as to strengthen the capacity. Therefore, the audience were divided into small groups and having discussion to identify policies and regulations, human and financial resource capacity, service provision, and solutions or innovations related to climate change. The interactive discussions in each group were facilitated by the Unud Koneksi team and were also attended online by the Koneksi teams from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). With the participants' consent, all policy stakeholder group discussion activities were recorded on video, intending to serve as a learning resource for the NTB and NTT teams.


The activities ran smoothly, thanks to thorough preparations made days in advance, including to setup findings preparation and aligning perceptions among the research team members. The multi-methods being performed to ensure the comprehensiveness of data. Following this activity is the preparation for similar events in NTB and NTT.
