Capacity Building for FETP Alumni by PAELI

I Wayan Pujana, SKM, MPH, a field mentor at Udayana's FETP and alumnus of UGM's FETP, currently working at Bali Provincial Health Office, participated as a speaker in a capacity-building event for FETP alumni in Indonesia organized by PAELI. The monthly "Ngobras" (casual talk) seminar, hosted by the Indonesian Field Epidemiology Association, focuses on the latest public health topics to ensure PAELI members—field epidemiology alumni—stay informed and can effectively plan public health responses in their regions.

On Saturday, July 20, 2024, the Ngobras session discussed rabies, which has resurfaced in some regions of Indonesia. Wayan Pujana spoke about implementing the One Health approach in controlling rabies in Bali. This approach had successfully reduced rabies cases for several years in Bali, until the COVID-19 pandemic shifted health priorities. The One Health approach has improved communication, coordination, and collaboration between health and veterinary sectors, enhancing public health efforts.

Another speaker, Anwar Fuadi from the Animal Health Department of Lampung Province, addressed challenges in managing rabies-transmitting animals, emphasizing the impact of differing perspectives on animal welfare and resource availability due to COVID-19.

For the Master of Public Health at Udayana University, a field epidemiology program provider, PAELI's initiative supports lifelong learning for alumni. It empowers alumni and field mentors while promoting field epidemiology education to the public, as the events are open to all. Therefore, the Master Program of PH Udayana University actively supports and participates in these seminars, including spreading information and contributing as speakers in previous Ngobras sessions.

Nevertheless, future efforts will focus on increasing participation from FETP alumni and students to support continuous learning for Indonesia's FETP alumni.
