Alumni Engagement in Field Epidemiology: Online Seminar on Entry Point Surveillance

I Made Arta, an alumnus of FETP Udayana, was granted the opportunity to serve as a speaker at an online meeting organized by the Indonesian Field Epidemiology Alumni Association (PAELI) on Saturday, April 26, 2024. The online seminar, entitled "Surveillance at Entry Points," featured three speakers who are experts in their respective fields. I Made Arta, as an FETP Udayana alumnus and a surveillance staff member at the Denpasar Quarantine Center, delivered a presentation on Surveillance at the Entry Points of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. The second speaker was Rebecca D Merril, addressing “Considerations for Cross-Border Surveillance”, serving as the Country Director of the US CDC for Indonesia. The third speaker, Jusly Adrianus, an alumnus of FETP UGM, works as a surveillance staff member at the Kupang Quarantine Center.

The seminar garnered significant interest, with 151 participants from academia, practitioners from quarantine centers and health departments, as well as other relevant stakeholders. Commencing at 10:00 AM WITA with presentations by the speakers, the event was followed by a discussion session. Due to active participation from the audience, the activity concluded at 1:00 PM WITA.

This initiative by PAELI, featuring FETP alumni as experts in their fields, signifies a commendable innovation aimed at continuously empowering and enhancing the readiness of alumni to contribute to their respective fields. It also strengthens collaboration among alumni, policymakers, academia, and their universities, which is crucial in addressing future health challenges.
