Using Data for Public Health Action: Haryadi Journey as an FETP Epidemiologist

Epidemiologist, West Nusa Tenggara
Haryadi, S.Kep., M.Kes
FETP Alumni | Epidemiologist, Provincial Health Office of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Indonesia
“Epidemiology turns available health data into evidence that guides public health action and policy.”

For Haryadi, epidemiology is about making the best use of existing health data to support evidence-based decision-making. With a background in nursing and a master’s degree in public health specializing in epidemiology, he focuses on strengthening disease surveillance, improving the use of health information systems, and translating data into meaningful public health insights.

Currently, Haryadi serves as an epidemiologist at the Provincial Health Office of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). His work involves analyzing surveillance data, monitoring disease trends, and supporting program planning through the use of digital health systems, data dashboards, and epidemiological analysis. His efforts contribute to strengthening responses to priority diseases such as Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and other communicable diseases.

Earlier in his career, Haryadi worked with several international organizations. As a District Technical Officer with the USAID Tuberculosis Private Sector (TBPS) program, he supported the expansion of the Public–Private Mix (PPM) strategy to improve TB case detection and reporting. He also worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) on the Measles–Rubella immunization campaign and with the Global Fund to strengthen district Health Information Systems and promote the use of digital health data for program management.

Through his work, Haryadi continues to demonstrate how effective use of data, digital health systems, and epidemiological analysis can support timely and evidence-based public health action.

“FETP has empowered me to use data for better public health decisions. I hope more future
epidemiologists will join this journey.”
